Ecological Jungle AdventureExpedition deep into a Magical and Ancient Primeval Forest
|
Tours to the Wildlife Reserve of Cuyabeno are for 4 or 5 days and start in the oil town of Lago Agrio, in the north-east of Ecuador. Cuyabeno is a flooded rainforest area with unique wildlife, however it is quite frequented by tourism so there is more than one Lodge in the area. On hikes in the jungle or canoe rides it is possible that other groups are met. The guide is a professional jungle guide who speaks English and Spanish. There are river dolphins, different species of monkeys and birds, caimans, sloths, fish, butterflies and many insects. Our camp (the Green Planet Camp) consists of Indian Stile Huts built from local materials. There is a separate area designated the dining and kitchen area, two huts accommodate 20 people each where the guests sleep in comfortable single or double mosquito nets equipped with mattresses, sheets and blankets. The bathroom facilities are shared and have toilets, showers and sinks. Group sizes vary; usually there are not more than 10 people in a group. This tour is both for kids, younger and older people. It is more comfortable than the Curaray tour and the group stays at the same camp during the whole trip.

Tours to Curaray are for 8 days (it is possible to go for 5 days, but it is not recommendable because it includes a lot of traveling). The exceptional tour takes place in the jungle of Pastaza province - in the south-east of Ecuador at the boundary with Peru and in the southern corner of National Park Yasuní. This tour takes you to an almost untouched area in the remote Amazon region. Wildlife and plant life are innumerable - there are a lot more animals to be seen than in Cuyabeno (e.g. turtles, pink river dolphins, capybaras, tapirs, tiger, many different species of monkeys, reptiles, fish, a huge variety of birds, butterflies, etc.) due to the fact that this part of the rainforest is pristine, that more days are spent there and different places are visited. The area is almost unexplored and to get there 240 km of jungle have to be crossed by plane first. The base is the small village of Lorocachi where a few Indian families live. At the beginning of the tour, the group usually goes to the base camp - a Indian stile hut where the guests sleep in tents, equipped with mattresses, sheets and blankets. During the further expedition in the deeper jungle they sleep in tents. The tour is a real adventure, very rustic and without luxuries but it is fit to the jungle circumstances! There are two guides: a native jungle guide with a great knowledge of the jungle secrets, and a biology-naturalist guide with a lot of scientific knowledge and who speaks English and Spanish. This is an exceptional adventure for anybody who wishes to experience the untouched nature of a primeval forest and especially for biologists, ornithologists, investigators and adventurers interested in the huge variety of the exciting animal and plant life.
